Celebrating Shenzhen's 40th Birthday as a Special Economic Zone
Tomorrow is the 40th Anniversary of Shenzhen becoming a Special Economic Zone. An event that marks the beginning of the reform and opening up of China.
To celebrate this important milestone, we had the honor of hosting a birthday party with at the Nanshan International Cultural Exchange and Service Center.
From left to right: Ms Wei (Party Director of Public Service Centers of Zhaoshang Sub-District), Expats Bruno Schuyten and Gannet Wystix, and Mr. Liu Li (Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhaoshang Sub-District).
The event was graced with attendees from all over the world as well as Mr. Liu Li, Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhaoshang Sub-District, and Ms Wei, Party Director of Public Service Centers of Zhaoshang Sub-District
Mr. Liu highlighted the event by giving a stirring and inspiring welcome speech about Shenzhen, how it has led the reform and opening up of China over the last 40 years, and how the expat community has been a major part of building the city.
During the intimate gathering, expats shared some of their favorite photos and memories of the city. One of the photos shared (shown above) was from as far back as 23 years ago!
Gary Isse of ShekouDaily and EatForCharity was the emcee of the event; which also included a cake cutting ceremony, a traditional Chinese Guzheng performance, and live music by members of TAS from the Terrace.
The event, attended by Shenzhen residents from all walks of life, was also an excellent opportunity to share stories, ideas and network.
Shenzhen TV also attended and broadcasted portions of it on television today. (See video below)
